Product Description

This is a utility widget that gives you a simple interface for all the JavaScript window.open() options so you don’t have to code it.  This static widget allows you to modify the size (width & height), and coordinates of where the window will open.  Use it as a transparent hot spot so you can place it over your own button image or text for a hyperlink effect, or use it with a Captivate button.

FAQ:

Q:  How can I get this to open in a new tab instead of a window?

A:  This is a user preference setting for the browser itself.  Check the browser’s documentation for changing the behavior when opening a new window/tab.

Q:  Some of the options do not work in all browsers

A:  That is correct.  Each browser implements the window.open() method a bit differently.  Some settings are not honored by all browsers.  Read the documentation to find out more.  Try downloading the trial and make sure it will work for your specific purpose.

Q:  How do I get the CaptivateDev.com logo removed?

A: The trial version will display the logo until you purchase the premium version below.  You will need to replace the trial widget with the premium version in your Captivate project.

Q:  How do I use this with a Captivate Button?

A:  Type in the Item Name of the Captivate Button you want to use in the “Button Item Name:” field of the widget’s properties.  When the Learner clicks the Cp button at runtime, the browser window will open.  If you decide to use the built-in hotspot instead of a Cp button, remove the “Button Item Name” from the widget’s properties.

Yes… just insert the widget swf into your 5.0 project.

Having some problems placing the widget to get the hand over a text caption

    • http://twitter.com/CaptivatePro CaptivateDev.com

@4e304e3afaf8e03db6c642b8badd7f1d:disqus :  Make sure that your layering is correct on the timeline.  The widget should be on top and the text caption underneath.  Also, I’ve added the functionality to use a standard Captivate button instead of the hotspot and I’ve bumped up the version to 5.6.  The trial download has been updated too if you want to try it out.

I’m testing out the trial version which worked fine when using ‘F12’ to publish. When I publish to our server, I keep getting ‘domain not allowed’.

Sorry, posted for the wrong widget. Please disregard.

@1c41fa0a5afd1bc028c26a314d75f09a:disqus :  Right… when you purchase the full version, that will not be displayed.  In fact, I’m leaning toward taking it out of the trial too.  Thanks for pointing that out…

Hi Jim, are there any plans to make this work with Captivate 6? Thanks

    • http://twitter.com/CaptivatePro CaptivateDev.com

@Rick:  Yes, I’m in the process of converting all of the widgets to the new Cp 6.0 framework.  Stay tuned!
